Trans Nzoia Residents have been urged to embrace Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms to reduce the backlog of land cases in courts, Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development CEC Member Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama has called out.

Speaking during a meeting with Members of the MESO Farm (Saboti) and the Agricultural Finance Cooperation (AFC) at the County Headquarters Tuesday, Ms Mutama noted that although the courts had been instrumental in solving most land feuds, the surge in cases was overwhelming.

She observed that this made some cases to drag for long which impacted negatively to the parties economically as delays in prosecution of the cases inconvenienced the concerned parties.
The CECM disclosed that ADR has so far helped in the resolution of some of the land disputes within a very short time besides building up cohesion among members of the communities who have been embroiled in unending disputes.

She disclosed that the teams will meet again on Wednesday to deliberate on some of the solutions to resolve the 600 acres lands tussle in the area pitying the MESO cooperative society, Eng. Okundi and the AFC.

Her sentiment where echoed by Trans-Nzoia County Secretary Truphosa Amere who called on the members to come up with the possible solutions on how to solve the issues some which have taken almost 35 year to resolve.
