Nairobi Woman Representative The Honorable Esther Passaris has taken a moment to share with us his reminiscing moment about the first vice president the late Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga

She says,

“I met Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1992 when he visited my tailoring workshop to collect his campaign T-shirts. He was a true gentleman, generously tipping my entire factory as a gesture of appreciation for our work. As I observe his offspring, from Senator Oburu to Baba, Raila Odinga, and Ruth Odinga, I discern the same stature combined with humility and kindness. The saying holds true – the apple never falls far from the tree. RIP The Great Jaramogi.”

Born in October 1911, Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga was a prominent political figure and one of the leaders of Kenya’s freedom fighters who helped secure the country’s independence.

He was appointed minister for home affairs in 1963, and in 1964 became vice president under founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

A fierce Kenyatta critic, Jaramogi served as VP from December 12, 1964, to April 14, 1966, when he resigned and he remained a vocal opposition leader until his death.
