Ex-Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga Released On Sh 50K Bond

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has been released on Sh.50, 000 bond.
Njenga was on last week Monday arraigned at the Nakuru Law Courts over several criminal charges among them being supporting an organized criminal group.

He was released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail and Ksh.50,000 bond or surety of the same amount.

He was further required not to make any contact with any prosecution witnesses likely to jeopardize the case.

Any violations would lead to the cancellation of the bond, the court ruled.
He is more so facing charges of engaging in criminal activities.

He is accused of inviting individuals to the said meeting at the Wanyororo area where he is alleged to have provided instructions connected with Mungiki.

He is also accused of being in possession of “a military backpack strap, property of the National Police Service (NPS) that is suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.”

His appearance at the DCI headquarters was however marred with running battles after police officers lobbed teargas canisters at Njenga’s supporters who had thronged the premise to show support for Njenga.

He is also being investigated in relation to the recovery of two firearms and more than 90 rolls of bhang found at a home linked to him in Ngomongo, Bahati.
