Farmers from Soy,Kapseret and Moiben Sub counties in Uasin Gishu County are starring at losses after the African fall army worm invaded their farms.

Addressing the media at Eldoret town,the county Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Samuel Yego assured farmers that the County Government in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are working to mark an end on the African fall army worm.

“The Uasin Gishu County has put in place 5500 litres of pesticides to support farmers who have reported the attack.I urge farmers to scout their farms and do a report to field officers .”Said Yego

According to FAO Director-General QU Dongyu,Food and Agriculture Organization global action for African fall army worm control is coordinating comprehensive measures across the world.

The extension will enable the Integrated Pest Manqgement technologies to tackle the multiple pest threats through sustainable plant health management.

The ministry of Agriculture has noted that the African fall army worm was first reported in Western Kenya in 2017 and has since spread country wide.

Farmers in Western part of Kenya,Rift Valley,Kericho and Homa-bay counties have reported the attack of the fall army worm.

The Department of Crops Management and Research (DCMR) says that 500000 acres of land have been affected by the destructive pests across 33 counties.
