Foundation Stone Laid for New Mother and Baby Unit at Tot Sub County Hospital
In a significant boost to maternal and child healthcare, the foundation stone for a new 26-bed Mother and Baby unit was laid at Tot Sub County Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in the Kerio Valley belt, is set to transform healthcare services for mothers and newborns in the region.
The new unit will feature a fully equipped modern New Born Unit, a theatre, antenatal and postnatal wards, and a dedicated delivery unit. Once completed, the hospital will cater to the healthcare needs of mothers across the entire Kerio Valley.
The project, valued at Sh40 million, is being undertaken in partnership with the Safaricom Mpesa Foundation. Construction work has commenced immediately and the facility is expected to be operational by October 5th.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, officials expressed their optimism about the positive impact the facility will have on the community. “This hospital will provide essential services to mothers and babies, significantly improving healthcare outcomes in the region,” said a representative from the health department.
In addition to the new Mother and Baby unit, ongoing construction of the Tot Out Patient Department (OPD) was also assessed. The new OPD is part of the hospital’s broader expansion plan to enhance healthcare services for the local population.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including MCAs Paul Suter, Peris Kiptoo, Joseph Chebet, Jeremiah Biwott, and Deputy Speaker Paul Kipyatich. Also present were County Executive Committee members Edwin Kibor and Robert Kangogo, alongside staff from the health department led by Chief Officer Jeremiah Chirchir.
The collaborative efforts of the county government and the Safaricom Mpesa Foundation were lauded as a step forward in achieving better health standards and accessibility for the residents of Kerio Valley.
