Garissa Governor Presents Detailed Bank Operations Report to Senate Committee

Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama addressed the Senate’s Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations today, providing an in-depth report on the financial management of the county’s commercial bank accounts. This presentation comes as part of a broader examination of county financial practices nationwide.

Governor Jama offered a transparent overview of Garissa County’s bank accounts, outlining the operational structure and financial status of each. Among the accounts detailed were the Scholarship Account, which supports education for economically disadvantaged students, and the Revenue Collection Account, responsible for managing income from local taxes and service charges.

Additionally, Jama discussed the Emergency Fund Account, designated for disaster management and unforeseen events, and the Salary Account, which ensures timely payment to county employees. He also highlighted the Revolving Fund Account, used for budget reallocations associated with the Garissa Revolving Fund.

“Our objective is to ensure that every shilling is accounted for and used to benefit the residents of Garissa County,” Governor Jama affirmed during the meeting.

Senator Sheikh Abass, Chair of the Senate Committee, praised the governor’s detailed and clear presentation. “Governor Jama demonstrated a high level of accountability in his report. It is evident that Garissa County is dedicated to effective financial management and transparency,” Sen. Abass remarked.

The governor’s presentation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance oversight and accountability in county financial management practices.
