Governor Barasa Urges Residents to Plant Sugar Cane
The Governor of Kakamega County Fernandes Barasa has implored farmers in Mumias and Kakamega County as a whole to embrace sugarcane farming to enable sufficient supply of the raw material to Mumias Sugar Company.
Speaking at Ichinga, Mumias North Ward, Mumias West Sub-County during the funeral service of late Nominated Member of County Assembly Hon. Phaustine Werimo, Governor Barasa reiterated that the revival process of the giant miller is fully dependent on availability of sufficient raw material.
“I want to urge residents to plant sugarcane, this will help them earn a living and improve their livelihoods since as i am talking the revival of Sugarcane firms is on process,” said the Kakamega governor.
Being a farmer himself, the County boss encouraged residents to maximise on the current steady resuscitation of the factory to grow the crop which is insufficient at the moment; His administration, the Governor stated, will give priority to cane farming and revival of the Company.
