Governor Bii Joins RVTTI in Planting Over 2000 Trees

Let us all come together and plant trees to make Uasin Gishu a greener, cleaner place to live.

This was said by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, when he led a tree planting exercise at Rift Valley Technical Training Institute, Eldoret.

He was accompanied by County Executive Committee Member for Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Dr Abraham Serem and other top county officials.

Governor Bii said that its time environment stakeholders joined the government in devising ways of recycling plastics.

The county boss also added that children should be educated on the need to Reuse, Reduce and Recycle plastics.

“This is the time to realise the challenges facing us and look for sustainable solutions towards this plastic menace even as we make it our culture to plant and grow with our trees,” added Bii.

On his part, CECM Environment Dr Abraham Serem lauded the institution for starting the tree nursery within the institution further pledging his departments support to see the program succeed.

“Our success in combating environmental pollution as a county is through tree planting. Let us join hands and grow trees,” added Dr. Serem.

According to the Principal Ms Loice Kutoh,
their goal as an institution is to plant over 300,000 trees this year.

During the exercise, over 2000 tree seedlings were planted.

“We are committed as RVTTI to plant and grow trees to make Uasin Gishu greener and better for all of us,” said Ms. Kutoh

She also hinted that with the launch of the tree nursery in the institution, their long-term plan is to supply the whole county with seedlings.

“Let us all take deliberate actions to see to it that we conserve the environment,” said Ms Mary Kerich CO Environment accompanied by CO Water Elijah Koech.

This comes at a time when the County Government of Uasin Gishu has distributed over 300,000 assorted tree seedlings countywide.

Also present was the Ainabkoi Deputy County Commissioner Charles Laboso, ELDOWAS Managing Director Peter Biwott, Director Environment Dr. Charles Nyabayo, Kapsoya Ward Administrator Fredrick Serem and several key stakeholders.
