Governor Bii Launches Construction of State-of-the-Art Kipkarren Market
In a significant boost to the local economy and in line with his administration’s commitment to empowering traders, Governor Jonathan Bii has officially launched the construction of the Kipkarren market, a modern facility designed to enhance trade and improve livelihoods for over 400 traders in Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Bii emphasized the importance of developing modern markets to create a conducive business environment for the hardworking traders who drive the local economy. “In alignment with Nguzo number 4 on trade, we are fulfilling our promise to create state-of-the-art markets that support not just business growth, but also community engagement,” said Governor Bii.
The Kipkarren market, once completed, will feature a wide range of modern facilities, including designated storage areas, cold rooms, and specialized spaces such as a mother’s room and a children’s play area. These amenities are designed to cater to the diverse needs of traders and their families. Additionally, the market will boast an ICT hub, a social hall for community events, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a food court, creating an ideal setting for both commerce and social interaction.
“By ensuring that our markets are modern, accessible, and inclusive, we are providing our traders with the necessary tools to thrive,” Governor Bii added. “This facility will not only offer a better trading environment but also promote sustainable business practices and enhance the social cohesion within our communities.”
The Kipkarren market is expected to be completed in a record six months, with construction already underway. The facility will serve as a model for similar projects across the county, with other markets in Matharu, Kesses, Soy, and other sub-counties already in development.
Governor Bii highlighted that these projects are part of a broader initiative to modernize markets throughout Uasin Gishu, ensuring that local traders are supported and that communities have access to the infrastructure needed for economic and social growth.
The event was also attended by local leaders, including the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Benjamin Natui, who commended the county government for its efforts to improve market infrastructure in the region. “This is a significant step forward for our traders,” said Hon. Natui. “We are seeing the realization of the vision for a thriving and vibrant marketplace where business owners and customers alike can benefit.”
Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that uplifts the local community and strengthens the county’s economy. “We will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure the success of these initiatives and build a prosperous future for all residents of Uasin Gishu,” he concluded.
The Kipkarren market is expected to play a pivotal role in driving trade and creating a sustainable economic ecosystem, further cementing Uasin Gishu County as a key economic hub in the region.
