Governor Bii Flags of Food Donation Worth Sh 10 Million
Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii has flagged off a consignment of food donations worth 10 million.
The donations include Maize, maize flour, beans, rice, cooking oil, Sugar, food supplements, and assorted clothes was realized.
“I have Officially flagged off a consignment of food donations meant to assist the hunger-stricken regions in the North Rift. I am deeply touched by this drive borne out of compassionate Members of Wareng’ Power House ( a social media forum) who came together to extend their hands and hearts to their fellow countrymen in distress ” Governor Bii said.
The food is destined for Turkana County which is currently among the most affected due to the ravaging drought.
He said his administration was responding to a call by President William Ruto two months ago for Kenyans to help those affected in the hunger-stricken areas.
As a quick measure, I mobilized a team under the Save a Life Initiative, and through their Chairperson Mr. Willy Kenei who I am proud of what they have done; they quickly embarked on the collection drive across all the Sub Counties. I wish to congratulate Wareng Power House a WhatsApp group in Uasin Gishu whose members operationalized the collection drive before escalating the noble initiative to my office,” the Uasin Gishu governor said.
He noted that the total foodstuffs that have been collected are 65 tones of assorted items that are able to feed 5,000 households for a period of 28 days.
“I am glad to report to you that from our well-wishers we have so far been able to collect foodstuffs worth Ksh 10 million that are made up of dry cereals comprising of maize, beans, wheat, sugar, salt animal supplements, and also pumpkins. We have also received more than 80 bales of clothes. Our initial target was Ksh 15 million but we are grateful for everyone who has made their kind donations towards a noble course,” he added.
He appreciated farmers who saw it fit to step in and donate their first harvests for a worthy cause.
“Even as we look forward to cushioning our brothers and sisters during this Christmas festive season, it is important to note that we all need to continue rallying behind those in need. I, therefore, challenge my colleagues from the various counties to borrow a leaf and leave a mark in our society by saving a life,” he said.
