Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has vowed to revoke licenses of those operating clubs near residential estates.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the County Executive Committee members, he called upon the county commissioner and Police County Commander, to look into the issue of illicit brewing.

“There are people operating clubs and other entertainment joints in residential estates. We are not going to accept this trend to continue because of the many complaints my office has received from law-abiding citizens. Those found risk losing their licenses,” said Chelilim.

He also asked the county commissioner to go after gangs terrorizing and brutally killing residents in Uasin Gishu and asking residents to be wary of new people around their areas of residence.

“Our security apparatus should reign on gangs that are wreaking havoc in our peaceful county. We also appeal to ‘nyumba kumi’ chairpersons to encourage community policing to curb the menace of insecurity,” he added.

Further, he asked the MCAs representing areas bordering the town, to ensure Eldoret is put in an order with plans already underway to elevate it to a city.

“Eldoret will soon be conferred to a city. Everyone supports this idea and we have been holding meetings to build capacity that will fast-track the process of making our town Kenya’s fifth city,” he said.
