Governor Mandago, Sudi Condemns Raila Odinga’s Attack During Jackson Kibor’s Burial
Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has condemned the act of violence directed to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
This comes after his helicopter was pelted with stones during the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor.
Through his official Facebook page Mandago said he will pursue the matter without rest.
“I condemn with the strongest terms possible the act of violence directed at the former Prime Minister Rt Hon Raila Odinga after the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor. Uasin Gishu is a peaceful county, we will pursue the matter without rest until the perpetrators are all brought to book,” said Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago.
He noted that his administration has heavily invested in peace building and cohesion as a region.
“We will not allow a few elements to take us back. I urge the security apparatus in the region to act with speed and get into the bottom of the matter. They should also be on the lookout during this highly charged political period.I remain committed to a peaceful campaign, political maturity and respect to divergent opinions, that is why I always tell the members of public “WASIWEKE SIASA KWA ROHO”. The incident that happened after I had left the venue is very regrettable and retrogressive,” he added.
Mandago noted that he had cordial engagement with the opposition leader and other leaders .
” It is regrettable a few rough elements pelted his helicopter after we had bid each other goodbye. We should all shun violence of any nature for us to grow our democracy,” he said.
Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi condemned the incident terming it as unfortunate and illegal intended.
“We condemn any kind of violence against politicians either in Kabenes,Kenol,Kondele or anywhere within our republic. The police should take full responsibility for what happened in Kabenes. Someone of stature like the Former Prime Minister shouldn’t attend any function without heavy presence of the police. There were only two police officers surrounding the chopper. These days some youth go overboard, we even witnessed one hanging on a chopper in Bungoma and another one in Trans Nzoia. We shouldn’t tolerate such barbaric and retrogressive kind of politics this century,”
