Governor Natembeya Engages Senate Committee on Education Over ECDE and Vocational Training Challenges
Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya recently had a productive meeting with the Senate Committee on Education, focusing on the challenges and opportunities facing Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and vocational training in the county. During the discussions, both parties emphasized the need for greater investments in education, particularly in improving teacher-to-pupil ratios and enhancing the provision of learning materials for ECDE centers.
Governor Natembeya highlighted the critical role that ECDE plays in shaping the future of children and stressed the importance of ensuring that these foundational years are well-supported. He acknowledged that while significant strides have been made, there is still a lot of work to be done in addressing the gaps in resources and infrastructure that continue to hinder the quality of education at the grassroots level.
“We must put more effort into improving the teacher-to-pupil ratio in our ECDE centers. It is crucial that every child receives the attention they need to build a strong educational foundation,” Governor Natembeya stated. “Furthermore, ensuring the availability of adequate learning materials will play a pivotal role in enriching the learning experience of our young learners.”
The Governor also took the opportunity to share the progress made under his administration, particularly through the **Ukombozi School Milk Program**, which has been praised for helping to boost the nutritional levels of young learners while encouraging school attendance. The initiative has been one of the most celebrated projects in the county, directly impacting thousands of children in ECDE centers across Trans-Nzoia.
In addition, Governor Natembeya highlighted a major achievement of his administration—the absorption of all ECDE teachers onto **permanent and pensionable terms**. This move has provided job security for educators and reinforced the county’s commitment to improving the quality of education at the earliest levels.
The Senate Committee on Education commended Governor Natembeya’s leadership and expressed appreciation for the initiatives that have been rolled out to support the education sector in Trans-Nzoia. They specifically recognized the success of the Ukombozi School Milk Program and the permanent employment of ECDE teachers as positive steps toward improving the education landscape in the county.
“The steps taken by Governor Natembeya’s administration demonstrate a strong commitment to the future of education. We are pleased to see that Trans-Nzoia is setting a great example with the Ukombozi School Milk Program and the integration of ECDE teachers into permanent positions,” said one committee member.
Looking forward, Governor Natembeya reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the **Department of Education** is adequately funded. He expressed confidence that continued collaboration with the Senate and other stakeholders will lead to even more progress in transforming ECDE centers and vocational training institutes.
“We will continue working hard to secure adequate funding for our education system. Our children deserve the best education, and we are committed to providing it through well-resourced ECDE centers and vocational training institutes,” Governor Natembeya concluded.
As Trans-Nzoia County continues to prioritize education, it is clear that Governor Natembeya’s administration is laying a strong foundation for the future by investing in the youngest learners and supporting teachers to build a more robust and inclusive educational system.
