Governor Natembeya Graces the Official Ground Breaking For Ultra modern Sports Complex
Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya graced the groundbreaking ceremony for Sh 900 million ultra-modern sports complex in Kitale
He says the sports complex will host thousands of sportsmen and spectators.
The international standard facility that will cost a total of Sh 900 million on completion has been scheduled for construction in two phases.
The first phase which will take Sh 657will comprise of a VIP dais, a running track, changing rooms, for spectators seats, a canopy and an abolition block and will take a maximum of 18 months to completion.
“The stadium will attract sportsmen including those from the neighboring Uganda and South Sudan and will promote talent nurturing as well as boost revenue generation for the county,” said Natembeya.
The second phase will have pitches for indoor games including table tennis, swimming and chess established and will begin soon after completion of the first phase.
The governor cited delays in the disbursement of the counties share of the national revenue and land grabbing as some of the challenges that could derail the project but remained optimistic of overcoming the hurdles.
The event was also attended by the county secretary Truphosa Amere, County Executive Committee Members, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi and a host MCAs among other dignitaries.
During the auspicious occasion, St. Anthony Boys High school soccer team alias Solidarity Boys beat Goseta Boys 2:0 in a sensational match played at the County Stadium.
The governor awarded the winners Sh 50,000 and a set of football jerseys with the runners up getting Sh 25,000 plus a set of football jerseys.
