Governor Natembeya Pledges Support for Good Governance Peer Review, Aiming for Progress and Public Service Excellence!
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has expressed his willingness to collaborate with institutions promoting good governance through self-assessment.
During a meeting with a delegation from the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, led by Director Peter Kimemia, Governor Natembeya reaffirmed his support for the county peer review mechanism. This mechanism aims to engage citizens in focused group discussions across all 25 wards in Trans Nzoia, evaluating the county’s performance in delivering services related to the 14 devolved functions.
Additionally, key informant interviews will be conducted to gain a holistic understanding.
Governor Natembeya demonstrated his strong belief in good governance and eagerly anticipates being peer-reviewed, actively participating in the exercise.
The three-day review, led by technical officers from the county government, will seek valuable input from residents, focusing on both successful aspects and areas needing improvement.
This review is part of a broader initiative to promote good governance and efficient service delivery, with a total of 11 counties undergoing evaluation. Following this process, they will participate in a national summit scheduled for September 2023.
The summit aims to facilitate the sharing of best practices and collectively address challenges to enhance governance and public service provision across Kenya.
The county peer review mechanism plays a crucial role in fostering transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. The insights gathered from these assessments will guide policymakers in formulating effective strategies and policies, ultimately improving the lives of the residents.
