In his remarks, the Governor commended the senator’s efforts and stated that the event, to be held every year, would allow hundreds of athletes to showcase their talents.
He stated that sports would remain one of his top priorities. Thus, he said he would unveil plans for scaling up sports activities and enhancing infrastructure, including stadiums and other facilities, in Trans Nzoia.
He revealed that soon work will start at the Kenyatta stadium that will help transform the facility to an international standard.
The county chief reiterated his administration’s commitment to attracting sponsorships and investments through sports.
Using sports, he said, his administration will create hundreds of jobs and expose youth to other international sporting opportunities.
According to Senator Allan Chesang, the initiative will result in more than 10 million trees being planted by the county’s sportspersons within five years.
In the 2022 Allan Chesang Half marathon, Winnie Chepkosgei, and Geoffrey Kipchumba took home the title and pocketed Ksh 150,000 which trickled down to 25th place.
“It is intended that through this race, awareness will be raised concerning the importance of increasing forest cover within our county,” he said.
