The long-awaited Maternal and Newborn Unit at Kwanza Sub-county Primary Care Hospital has officially been completed and is ready to serve the community. The state-of-the-art facility, funded by the TransNzoia County government in partnership with the M-Pesa Foundation, aims to provide high-quality healthcare services to mothers and their newborns.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, TransNzoia County Governor George Natembeya expressed pride in being part of the project, emphasizing its importance in ensuring safe and healthy births within the region.
“This facility represents a significant milestone in improving maternal and child healthcare in our county. By providing top-notch care for mothers and their babies, we are ensuring that families get the best start to life,” Governor Natembeya said.
The Maternal and Newborn Unit is equipped with modern medical technology and staffed by well-trained healthcare professionals, all geared towards reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and improving overall healthcare outcomes in the county.
Governor Natembeya extended his gratitude to the M-Pesa Foundation for its crucial role in supporting the project, noting that the collaboration between the county government and private sector partners was vital to improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.
“We couldn’t have achieved this without the invaluable support of the M-Pesa Foundation. This partnership demonstrates the power of public-private cooperation in delivering essential services to our people,” he added.
The facility will play a central role in addressing the growing need for comprehensive maternal and neonatal care in TransNzoia County, providing services such as prenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, and neonatal intensive care for infants.
As the new unit begins operations, Governor Natembeya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continually investing in healthcare to improve the quality of life for all county residents.
