Governor Natembeya’s Million-Shilling Boost to Winning Teams Sparks Sports Frenzy in the country
Governor George Natembeya demonstrated his unwavering support for local sports by awarding KSH 1 million to secondary school teams that excelled in the recently concluded Rift Valley games.
During a breakfast meeting held today at Kitale Westside Hotel to honor these remarkable teams, the governor praised their exceptional performances and expressed pride in their achievements.
Each player was given KSH 5,000, and those representing the county in upcoming international games were rewarded with an additional KSH 100,000. Coaches were not left behind, as they received KSH 10,000 each in recognition of their commendable efforts.
Governor Natembeya urged the players to remain dedicated to their sports and maintain a high level of discipline both on and off the field. Emphasizing that talent pays handsomely, he vowed to continue nurturing talents even after players complete their education.
To further bolster sports in the county, Governor Natembeya revealed several initiatives, including the construction of an ultramodern Kenyatta stadium in Kitale, designed to meet international standards. The administration has also committed to allocating a budget to support teams that perform exceptionally and represent the county at various competitions.
The event was graced by the presence of notable talents like Amos Wanjala, Alvin Kasavuli, and Aldrin Kibet from St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, who will be traveling abroad for sports-related engagements. The St. Monica Girls chess team was also recognized for their achievements and will be heading to Asia for a featured competition.
Furthermore, the County Sports CECM Chanelle Kittony unveiled Governor Natembeya’s plans to establish the County Governors Cup, aimed at nurturing young talents in the county. Such events have historically played a crucial role in scouting new talents.
Education CECM Sam Ojwang commended Governor Natembeya’s support for sports, stating that it set a precedent nationwide and marked the first-ever event of its kind in the county.
The gathering was attended by several dignitaries, including KUPPET Chairperson Eliud Wafula, County Director of Education Pamela Akelo, and heads of various schools and government institutions.
