Governor Otuoma Welcomes NOC-K Move to Devolve Its Services

Busia Governor Dr Paul Otuoma has welcomed the move by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) to devolve its activities to counties geared towards identifying more talents who will fly Kenyan flag at global stage.

The governor who hosted Nock Secretary General Francis Mutuku and Athletes representative in the Committee Humphrey Khayange yesterday stated that his administration is ready to partner with Nock to promote sports within their jurisdiction.

“I urge your team to develop a Memorandum of Understanding that will guide us on areas of collaboration considering that the epitome of any athlete is winning an Olympic medal and we as Busia wish to make our contribution to this fete,” he emphasized.

Dr Otuoma reiterated the need to re-look at the National Sports Policy with the aim of introducing National Lotteries that support sports federation as its done in other countries that have been successful in the multi-billion sector.

“There is no any other body that can help us spearhead sports development other than Olympic Committee basing on the fact that affiliate federation consider taking their team to the Olympics,” he added.

Mr Mutuku said their visit is aimed at ensuring that counties have a comparative advantage on matters sports noting that they have identified Busia as a strategic water sport destination.

“We are here to pitch, plan and collaborate ahead of our second edition of water sports that will take place in Bunyala Sub county next month,” he disclosed adding that the long term plan is use natural resources to nurture talents.

County Executive for Sports Paul Olung’a affirmed that Busia is ready to host this edition and have already identified venues for the event.

“The event offers us an avenue to showcase our cultural heritage, hospitality and tourism profile the reason why we will work round the clock to make it a success
