Governor Tolgos Launches Emergency Locust Response Project ELRP
The Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet County Alex Tolgos has launched Emergency Locust Response Project ELRP in Chepsirei, Soy South ward, to cushion farmers who lost their harvest to desert locust invasion between 2019-2021.
The project will see 5,722 farmers from 10 wards benefit from the project.
The project is currently being implemented in Endo, Arror, Emsoo and Soy South wards. A total of 108 groups were funded to a tune of 185,000 per group (A total of 19,980,000) across the 4 wards.
The groups led by their respective CDDCs are going to implement dairy goats, dorper rams, beans, green grams, groundnuts and coffee value chains
The project is expected to expand to three other wards (Tambach, Sambirir & Soy North) by next year. The level of funding for the groups is also expected to rise from 185,000 to 400,000 per group
Present during the event were CECs (Agriculture & Irrigation, Madam Ann kibosia, Lands, water, environment natural resources and climate change Mr. Abraham Barsosio, and Livestock and fisheries Mr. Joseph kiyeng and chief officers together with Area MCA Hon. Jonah Tanui.
