Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya today commissioned the Kapsitwet-Liavo footbridge in Kapomboi ward, Kwanza Sub county. The facility, funded through the ward-specific fund, is expected to serve thousands of residents from the villages of Liavo, Kapsitwet, and Namanjalala.

This situation has adversely affected businesses and social activities in the area. He particularly highlighted the importance of the footbridge for school-going children, as they have been relying on a dangerously constructed footbridge, posing a risk to their safety.

He urged the project managers to prioritize local youth during the expansion of the Kapsitwet road.

Governor Natembeya also encouraged residents to register companies to benefit from government businesses. He said his administration has established the NAWIRI Fund kitty worth Sh 102 Million to support small businesses. Additionally, the KAZI mashinani initiative will be launched soon to assist unemployed youths and internship opportunities will be open for youths in the county.

This financial year, the governor revealed , the county will install a solar-powered water pump at the Namanjalala water point and extend the pipeline to neighboring villages. Furthermore, his administration aims to install street lights across all centers to extend business working hours and improve security.

He warned against the issue of early pregnancies, emphasizing that it hampers young girls’ access to education. His administration will take action to address this issue and ensure the holistic growth of the community.

Regarding healthcare, the governor announced plans to construct a modern hospital in Kwanza, in collaboration with the Safaricom Foundation. This initiative aims to enhance the delivery of healthcare services in the sub-county. Furthermore, all health centers will be adequately equipped with medicine and non-pharmaceuticals.

In the education sector, the governor intends to streamline the issuance of bursaries by providing training to the bursary committee members. This will ensure that only eligible individuals benefit from the program.

During the event, MCA Kepha Were praised the governor for supporting initiatives at the grassroots level. The county assembly is committed to working collaboratively with the executive to ensure the residents benefit from devolution through the passage of relevant legislation and budgets.
