Addressing the graduating class of the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) during their 12th Graduation Ceremony in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu, the Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, delivered a powerful message urging the graduates to harness the skills and knowledge they have acquired to create their own employment opportunities and positively impact the world.

Dr. Muoria acknowledged the transformative power of TVET education, emphasizing its crucial role in equipping Kenya’s youth with the necessary skills to thrive in the dynamic and competitive job market. She lauded the RVTTI for its unwavering commitment to providing high-quality technical education and training, a legacy that has spanned over six decades.

Recognizing the evolving demands of the global workforce, Dr. Muoria underscored the importance of producing graduates who are not only equipped with technical expertise but also possess the adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for success in today’s rapidly changing world. In this regard, she commended the implementation of the Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum, a shift towards learner-centered training that emphasizes hands-on experience and practical application of knowledge.

To address the issue of accessibility to TVET education, Dr. Muoria highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the pursuit of technical training. She emphasized the new higher education funding model, which provides scholarships and HELB loans to trainees from diverse economic backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting those from extremely needy circumstances.

Acknowledging the burgeoning digital landscape and its impact on employment opportunities, Dr. Muoria drew attention to the SDTVET’s collaboration with the Ministry of ICT, The Digital Economy, TVETA, and Konza Technopolis in distributing digital labs to TVET institutions. This initiative has empowered over 23,000 youths with digital skills and online job training, enabling them to tap into the vast potential of the digital economy.

Dr. Muoria commended the RVTTI’s leadership and staff for their unwavering dedication to providing exceptional technical education and training. She urged the graduating class to embrace their newfound skills and knowledge, embark on their chosen career paths with confidence, and contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s social and economic development.
