Health Executive Promises to Lift Primary Care

The CEC Member for Health and Sanitation Ruth Koech, has assured that the Department of Health would put Primary Health Care (PHC) service at the front burner of its agenda, so as to make health care delivery available, affordable and accessible.

Speaking at her office in Kapsabet Town after being received by the staff at her office days after being sworn-in to continue serving as the county executive committee member for health, Ruth said that PHC would be the prime focus of the department adding that every average resident of Nandi would be put in front of the departments’ agenda and the health of the low income earners in the county would be put into consideration.

According to the CECM, the ultimate goal of the department is to build a vibrant Primary Health Care, to make it work and available, adding that the public-private partnership would be harnessed.

“It is our earnest desire to crystallize our current effort at revitalizing PHC and evolve one road map, to be jointly owned and implemented by all stakeholders under the leadership of Governor Stephen Sang,” she said.

She said that more attention would be put on malaria, diarrhoea, maternal health care and HIV, as the Primary Health Care would be of standard.

“The lives of every Nandi resident counts that’s why we will be partnering more with the private sectors to deliver health care at the primary level,” she said.

Since 2017 the Department of Health has been keen in delivering Governor Stephen Sang’s health promise to the Nandi people in regard to increasing the number of physical facilities at the community level and mobile health clinics services through outreaches as well as guaranteeing every family access to fully equipped health centres with a countywide network of local community health workers promoting preventive health.

In his remarks, Ag Chief Officer Fredrick Kiptum who led the staff in receiving the CEC, congratulated her and wished her well. He thanked the Governor for reappointing the CEC to continue serving in the docket. He also thanked the Department Staff for their continued support and for their commitment in serving the residents of Nandi.
