Health Jobs to Be Advertised Soon in Kitale with Priority for UHC Workers
Health workers in Kitale can expect new job opportunities soon as the county prepares to advertise positions to fill gaps in the department. Speaking at a Townhall meeting in Kitale, Health CEC Samson Ojwang assured health workers, especially those who have been on contract, that they will be given priority in the upcoming recruitment drive.
Ojwang explained that the delay in advertising the positions is due to the process of determining the exact number of vacancies needed to be filled. However, he reassured the health workers that the County Public Service Board is actively working on the advertisement and encouraged them to apply once the positions are announced.
The announcement comes after concerns were raised by 168 health workers whose contracts recently ended. Led by representatives Patrick Sitati, Sarah Mudasia, and Hellen Silisisi, the health practitioners had requested permanent employment, exemption from further interviews, and improved remuneration in terms of both salaries and allowances.
Addressing these concerns, Ojwang emphasized that the recruitment process will be competitive and will involve interviews as per the requirements. He acknowledged the wage disparities between contract workers and permanent employees, highlighting the need for fair compensation across the board.
In addition to discussing employment matters, Ojwang urged health professionals to collaborate with his office in addressing other pressing issues, such as alcohol and drug abuse, as well as LGBTQ rights. This call for collaboration underscores the broader commitment of the county to address public health challenges and promote inclusivity within the community.
