Transnzoia Governor George Natembeya treated Bahati Rescue Center children to an early Christmas after donating goods as well as spending time with the kids.

The governor also visited the Trans Nzoia County home for the elderly.

There are currently 47 vulnerable children residing in the Bahati Rescue Center, managed by the Embrace CBO. There is a capacity for 200 children at the center.

As part of the visit, Governor Natembeya announced that his administration will shortly launch an initiative that will increase the number of funds allocated to the center.

The county plans to improve the living standards of the elderly by renovating and building houses and providing other utilities to ensure that they remain in a conducive environment.

In the home, 25 elderly individuals will be insured under the NHIF.
Even though the children were in need, Governor Natembeya observed that they had talents that could be harnessed to benefit their livelihoods.

He also encouraged the kids to be patient and discipline as the county government looks for possible ways to empower them.

He said that family instability is an issue that needs to be addressed urgently. He added that counseling is vital to the rescue mission.

Julia Sydicy, the Director of the center, lauded the Governor’s gesture after receiving food items, sodas, and two refrigerators. Christmas has come early for the children, she said.

She said, “The vision of the center: Embrace exists for God to redeem street children by rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating them into the family and community.”

The center is working with other organizations in slum-dwelling areas to address family instability.

According to her any child who needs support, especially those who are homeless are welcome with open hands to the Rescue Center.

She said the center had already integrated 900 kids since its inception in 2015 with workers seeking destitute children from Sudan, Uganda, and surrounding counties.

Director for gender Robert Kibii said that the center rescues rehabilitates, and provides spiritual guidance to kids before they are reintegrated into society.
