Huruma Ward MCA Revives Hope for Former Student With Ambitions of Becoming a Lawyer
In a heartwarming gesture of community support, Kimani Wanjohi, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Huruma Ward, visited the impoverished Spain Kingongo slum to offer a lifeline to a young man whose academic dreams were dashed by financial hardship.
The visit, inspired by the boy’s struggle to continue his law studies at the University of Nairobi, underscores Wanjohi’s commitment to giving back to his roots.
The young man, David Ombwayo Mogita, had achieved an impressive A plain in his high school exams and enrolled in law school at the University of Nairobi.
However, his journey took a tragic turn when he had to drop out in his second year due to a lack of funds. This setback plunged him into a state of depression, leading to substance abuse and deteriorating health.
Moved by Mogita’s plight, Wanjohi made a personal visit to offer support. “I understand the challenges that come from growing up in the slums,” Wanjohi remarked. “I was deeply touched by David’s situation, and I am here to ensure that he has the opportunity to return to school and fulfill his dreams.”
During the visit, Wanjohi not only assured Mogita of financial support to cover his education but also promised assistance with essential needs such as shopping and transport and upkeep.
Wanjohi emphasized his commitment to helping Mogita get back on track and succeed in his academic and professional aspirations.
“After three years, David will become a lawyer and will be in a position to contribute positively to our community,” Wanjohi added.
Mogita, who had lost hope and was struggling with his circumstances, expressed profound gratitude. “I never imagined a day like this,” Mogita said, overwhelmed by the MCA’s intervention.
“This support gives me the strength to overcome the challenges I’ve faced and motivates me to contribute to my community once I complete my studies.”
Local residents and friends also praised Wanjohi’s efforts.
Lucy Akinyi from the Spain’s area expressed her appreciation, stating, “We are thankful for the MCA’s intervention. His commitment to supporting David is a beacon of hope for all of us.”
Clement Owuor, a close friend of Mogita, emphasized the impact of the support.
“David has always been a hardworking individual, and this assistance will enable him to become a positive force in our community,” Owuor said.
Douglas Gachengo, another local resident, praised Wanjohi’s dedication. “We are grateful for the MCA’s support and hope other leaders will follow his example. His actions are a testament to his commitment to improving the living standards of our community.”
Wanjohi’s visit not only revitalizes Mogita’s academic journey but also reinforces his ongoing charity work, which includes funding the education of over 45 students in secondary schools, colleges, and universities. His efforts reflect a broader commitment to empowering youth and transforming lives through education and support.
