IG Koome Presents Police Budget Before the Parliamentary Security Committee

Inspector General of Police IG Koome has this afternoon appeared before the Honorable Tongoyo-led Parliamentary Security Committee and articulated the NPS Policies informing the NPS FY 2024/2025 Budget Policy Statement. He was accompanied by the NPS Administrative Secretary/Accounting Officer Mrs. Bernice Lemedeket among other NPS Officers.

The IG informed the committee that Police Aircrafts have been returned to NPS and requested the Committee to allocate funds towards the operations of the NPS Airwing. The IG further reiterated his commitment to steer NPS to professionalism, and confirmed that Officers who were implicated in the killer brew that recently claimed over 17 lives in Kirinyaga County have been taken to Court and suspended from the Police.

The Accounting Officer, Madam Bernice briefed the Committee about the priority areas in NPS budget for FY 2024/2025, among them, general administration, paramilitary services, criminal investigation, and Border security. She requested the committee to allocate adequate funds towards operationalization of NPS Hospital Mbagathi and Border Police Hospital- Kanyonyoo; NPS medical cover, kitting of Officers, DCI National Forensic Laboratory to ease issuance of Police Clearance Certificates, vehicles, modernization programme/ automation of NPS services to enhance service delivery to members of public.

The Committee members present including the Chairperson Hon. Gabriel Tongoyo; Deputy Chairman Hon. Dido Rasso; Hon. Peter Kaluma; Hon. Liza Chelule; Hon. Rosa Buyu; Hon. Oku Kaunya,

Others are Hon. Amb. Francis Sigei; Hon. Fred Kapondi all appreciated that the National Police Service is a state department that plays a very critical role in securing the Country and therefore needs adequate funding.
