Interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi today chaired a security meeting of senior Police and National Government Administration officers.

The meeting that took place at APTC Embakasi was attended by the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, Inspector General Mr. Hillary Mutyambai, Deputy Inspector General KPS, Mr. Edward Mbugua, Deputy Inspector General APS, Mr. Noor Gabow, DCI Director General Mr. George Kinoti among other senior officers drawn from across the country.

Among issues discussed in the high-level meeting included the review of election preparedness ahead of the August polls, in addition to crafting effective ways of managing security during and after the important national exercise.

Speaking after receiving reports from all the regional commanders on how their areas have prepared for the elections, the CS expressed confidence that indeed the security sector is well ready to ensure a peaceful electioneering period.

The CS further noted that a multi-agency approach has many times proved to be effective and urged the officers to embrace it across their areas of jurisdictions.

On the emotive subject of insecurity in the volatile counties of Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot in Rift Valley, the CS made an assurance that re-deployment will be conducted promptly to ensure that peace is restored in the region for citizens to live in harmony as should be.

The security meeting is one of the many that are to be held within and outside Nairobi County as the country heads to the national elections.
