Interior CS Kindiki Reveals Plot to Burn Down Parliament
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki revealed a shocking plot to burn Parliament and massacre people, further heightening the political temperatures in Kenya.
While addressing the public, Kindiki explained that a suspect was arrested in the wee hours of the morning, just days after the June 25 protests.
The suspect, caught with fuel outside Parliament at 4 a.m., was reportedly on a mission to torch the legislative premises.
“Some of those characters who came to Parliament were not coming to have fun. They were coming to burn down Parliament and kill people,” said a greatly concerned Kindiki over the escalation of violence linked to recent political demonstrations.
This revelation follows a series of violent protests that shook Nairobi and other major towns in June amidst clashes between demonstrators and police.
The protests, to oppose government policies or against economic grievances, turned deadly several times to result in loss of lives, damage to property, and increase in security concerns.
It was reported that at the end of June, at least ten people died due to the violence, and hundreds were taken into custody.
Comments by Kindiki insinuate that the motives behind such protests may have transcended mere economic grievances but encompassed organized plans aimed at destabilizing national institutions.
Suspect was apprehended outside of Parliament and believed to be part of a group of people with intentions to incite chaos and wreak havoc on the political fabric of Kenya.
The arrest has sent alarm signals within the country’s security agencies to heighten surveillance and security at key government institutions.
The Ministry of Interior has since affirmed that there are ongoing probes to expose the masterminds of this plot, as well as to ascertain whether there are other plans targeting any other national key infrastructure.
This development occurs amid growing political friction between the members of the ruling coalition, with accusations and counter-accusations thrown at each other by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto’s allies.
This has been made worse by the revelation of the plan to burn Parliament.
However, the Interior CS has warned that law enforcement agencies will not tolerate any acts of sabotage or violence, calling on the public to respect the rule of law and ensure that whatever grievances exist are addressed through peaceful and legal means.
