KAA Conducts a full-Scale Emergency Drill

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) reported an incident of an overflying aircraft in Nairobi on Wednesday morning saying it was a fire drill.

“KAA successfully conducted a full-scale emergency drill at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to enhance emergency response capabilities and preparedness, said the authority on Twitter.

The authority had, without revealing the nature of the incident said the rescue was underway.

“An aircraft overflying Nairobi encountered an incident this morning at JKIA. Immediate rescue operations are underway led by our dedicated emergency response teams. We are working closely with authorities to ensure the safety of all involved,” said KAA on Twitter.

Through a press statement, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said they have successful completed a full-scale emergency drill conducted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) this morning.

I noted that the exercise, which involved a simulated incident of an aircraft that crashed at the airport while overflying Nairobi, was organized by KAA as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing airport emergency response capabilities and ensuring the highest level of preparedness in case of any unforeseen events.

“The primary objective of this exercise was to test and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the airport’s emergency response procedures, coordination among various agencies, and the overall readiness of the airport’s personnel,” the statement read.

KAA assured the public that the incident was entirely simulated and did not pose any real danger to passengers, crew members, or airport operations.

Mr. Alex Gitari, MD of Kenya Airports Authority, expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the emergency drill.

He stated, “Safety is our utmost priority at Kenya Airports Authority, and conducting regular emergency drills is a crucial aspect of our commitment to ensuring the highest level of preparedness. I commend the efforts of all the personnel involved in this exercise for their professionalism and dedication.”
