Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Deborah Mulongo rallied residents of Kakamega County to register for the newly launched Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) during a press briefing at Muliro Gardens today. This new initiative replaces the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and aims to ensure seamless access to healthcare services across both public and private facilities.

Governor Barasa emphasized the importance of timely registration, stating, “Complying with the National Government’s directive will secure uninterrupted healthcare for all residents. This is an opportunity for every Kenyan to protect their health and that of their loved ones.”

CS Dr. Mulongo assured the public of an ongoing registration exercise for the new program, highlighting its national rollout. She also visited Iguhu Hospital in Ikolomani Constituency, where she confirmed a successful SHA registration exercise had taken place, marking a significant step towards enhancing healthcare access in the region.

Kenyans eager to enroll in the program can do so easily by dialing *147# for self-registration.

Joining the Governor and CS were key health officials, including Dr. Meshack Ndirangu, Country Director of Amref Health Africa in Kenya, his Deputy Mr. Gilbert Wangalwa, CECM Health Dr. Benard Wesonga, and County Secretary Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, among others.

With this initiative, Kakamega County takes a significant leap toward improving health coverage, ensuring that all residents have access to quality healthcare services without financial strain.
