The Kenya Power Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Siror has condemned any form of assault directed towards the organization’s staff while on their official duty.

This comes a day after Member of Parliament Kitui East Nimrod Mbai was captured on video attacking a Kenya Power Engineer who was allegedly disconnecting an illegal power line in his home in Kitengela, Kajiado county.

Siror on Wednesday noted that MP Mbai’s incident was the latest to be observed among the many attacks which have unfortunately fallen on Kenya Power’s staff while on duty.

“As an entity that prioritizes the welfare of its staff and the public, we condemn this incident and we wish to categorically state that we do not condone any form of violence and at least not on our staff while on their official duty.

Siror also affirmed that the organization will not hesitate to pull out individuals who erect illegal and threatening power connections, arguing that they immobilize the quality of the power supply and cause massive losses to the company.

“Last year we lost 214 units of transformers at an average of Ksh. 800,000 per unit encumbered from illegal connections and vandalism,” He said.

The CEO also stated that the company will increase its network surveillance and will be in conjunction with the National Government Administration Officers and even other security agencies to remove all illegal activities.

At the moment, MP Mbai has been apprehended and the matter is before the courts.

Siror also called for any reports from members of the public concerning illegal connections and theft of power or any fishy activities on electrical networks to report the matter to 97771( call or text) or to the nearest authorities.
