Kipchumba Murkomen Apologizes and Expresses Gratitude Following Nomination
In the wake of President William Ruto’s announcement of the second batch of cabinet secretaries, Kipchumba Murkomen has taken to social media to convey his appreciation and extend apologies to the Kenyan public. Murkomen, who has been nominated for the sports docket, expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the opportunity.
Previously serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Murkomen was replaced by Davis Chirchir during the initial cabinet appointments last week. His new nomination to oversee the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports marks a significant shift in responsibilities, prompting Murkomen to reflect on his past service.
“The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologise to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, my deeds and my conduct, including my lifestyle, in the last two years of my public service,” Murkomen stated in a post shared through his official social media account.
In his bid to address concerns and regain public trust, Murkomen expressed readiness to appear before the National Assembly for scrutiny, highlighting his commitment to serving the nation if confirmed.
“Subject to my approval by Parliament, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability,” he affirmed.
Murkomen’s statement comes amidst a wave of reactions to the cabinet reshuffle, with many keenly observing the government’s new appointments and policy directions. His promise to focus on enhancing the sports sector underscores his intended priorities should he assume the new role.
