Kipkaren: 12-Year-Old Fatally Stabs 16-Year-Old Over Toy Dispute
A 16-year-old boy has tragically died after being stabbed by a 12-year-old child following a dispute over toys in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County. The incident, which took place on Saturday, has left the community in shock and prompted calls for increased parental vigilance.
According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the two children were playing together when a disagreement arose over a toy. In a sudden escalation, the younger child reportedly went into the house, retrieved a knife, and used it to stab the older child.
The injured teen was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have launched a full investigation to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident and to assess if any additional actions are warranted.
Commander Mwanthi expressed his condolences to the affected families and urged parents and guardians to ensure that potentially dangerous objects, like knives, are kept out of children’s reach. He also stressed the importance of guiding young people on peaceful conflict resolution to help prevent future tragedies.
“Parents should not only secure dangerous items but also educate their children about handling disagreements without resorting to violence,” Mwanthi said.
