KMPDU Want President Ruto to Employ More Doctors
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union in the North Rift Region now want president William Ruto to hire more doctors.
Speaking during their annual General meeting in Eldoret, North Rift Branch secretary General Kamunzi Mule and Chairman Darwin Ambuka said the current number is a drop in the ocean.
“We are calling on President William Ruto to hire more doctors since the ones available cannot offer adequate service to a large number of Kenyans. As we are talking Kenya has over 5,000 unemployed qualified doctors once these are employed it will reduce the shortage at large.” Said the North Rift Branch secretary General Kamunzi Mule.
They said it is sad that a County like West Pokot has only 38 doctors serving 621,000 people.
“This means that one doctor serves 17,000 people which is way above the World Health Organization standards of one doctor serving 1000 people,” added Chairman Darwin Ambuka.
He said the government should absorb all doctors and also train more the bridge the gap between doctors to patients.
“We blame the Ministry of Health which was led by then Mutahi Kagwe for failing to employ more specialists but we have faith in the new dispensation that they will employ more doctors. The Country is currently suffering from the highest mortality rate at 342 per 10,000 which is far above the recommended rate as per UN SDGs of 70 to 100,000.” Kamunzi Mule added.
