Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) have warned Uasin Gishu residents against electing gubernatorial aspirants on an independent Party ticket Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki.

Speaking to the press they said Buzeki’s proposal would undermine gains made in improving the welfare of health workers.

During a gubernatorial debate on Citizen TV, Buzeki said that once elected he will employ health workers on contracts and that he will not work with unions.

“We are perturbed with Buzeki’s utterances of employing health workers on contractual basis and convert those on permanent and pension terms into contracts basis, this is demoralizing and demotivating to workers, we will not entertain any aspirant who is going to suggest to employ health worker on a contractual basis,” said North Rift KMPDU branch secretary Kamunzi Mule.

“Let us support leaders that are going to support our health workers, infrastructure for us to access quality health care. Let’s elect a governor who will protect worker health since you are the ones who will suffer if we go on strike. Otherwise, tomorrow we will be on the streets striking instead of taking care of the patients,,” he added.

Buzeki will be facing Jonathan Bii Alias Koti Moja who will be vying on a UDA party ticket.

“Anyone threatening health workers should not be elected as governor and we will campaign against him. Gubernatorial candidates should be very specific about their agendas for the health sector and should consult extensively before talking about matters of health during the campaigns,” Dr. Darwin Ambuka KMPDU chair Northrift says.

However, Buzeki dismissed the claims saying he was misunderstood because it’s not even possible to change those who are on permanent terms to contract.
