KUPPET Wants TSC to Promote Teachers
The Kenya Union of Post primary education teachers ( KUPPET) has shown disappointments over the latest announcement made by Teachers Service Commission to promote 15000 teachers.
TSC on 13th December indicated that the teachers to be promoted are from different grades country wide.
However, according to Uasin Gishu KUPPET executive secretary Elijah Maiyo the number of teachers TSC plans to promote is inadequate.Â
“For example, we have 154 principals who are in grade B3 and there is no single position advertised for their promotion to B4. For deputy principals in grade B1 we have 197 teachers in the county but there are only only 15 positions for promotion, ” the KUPPET official said.Â
He also revealed that of the 15000 promotions only 35 teachers will benefit from uasin gishu. The county has over 3000 teachers in total.
“In job group C4 we have 225 teachers, none will be promoted. There are 1600 teachers in C3 and there is no planned promotions to C4 based on TSC advertisement, ” He added.
The teachers’ Union official also differed with tsc chief executive officer Nancy Macharia’s claim that no teacher has been in one job for long. There are many teachers who have stayed in one job group upto 25 years.
“Some teachers are about to retire and they only had one promotion in their whole career, ” Said Maiyo.
Further, Maiyo has indicated that an employee cannot be in one job group for more than three years and also has urged the government to consider setting a task force to look into teachers’ welfare.
