KURA DG Joined To Safeguard Our Environment
The Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority Eng. Silas Kinoti, in marking Mazingira Day as well as in line with the Government initiative of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, joined Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and Principal Secretary Eng Joseph Mbugua during the tree planting exercise in Dongo Kundu, Mombasa County.
The move aims to reduce greenhouse emissions, stop deforestation, and restore 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes through the African Landscape Restoration Initiative launched on 22nd December 2022. Besides, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority remains committed towards tree planting by the roadside in a strategy that will not only enhance the beauty of the streets but will also provide shade, reduce air pollution and improve the overall quality of life of urban residents. By creating green spaces, the authority hopes to use the campaign to mitigate carbon dioxide from vehicles using urban roads.
