LAIKIPIA MULTI-AGENCY SECURITY TEAM RECOVERS AN ILLEGAL FIREARM

On 5th July 2022, an AK-47 assault rifle, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine were recovered in an operation conducted by the multi-agency security team.

The firearm has since been handed over to the OCS Olmoran for custody.

The multi-agency had received information concerning an attack by bandits at Dam Moran area.

A total of 15 goats and sheep were stolen during the attack. In a struggle to prevent the rustlers from stealing his animals, Joseph Ekwam Lotoruk was shot twice on his shoulder and leg. The injured was later taken to Ol-Moran health center for treatment.

The rustlers were pursued and cornered at Kanabio along Loisaba conservancy on their way to Samburu.

One bandit was fatally injured and succumbed to the injuries after he defied orders to surrender and fired back at security officers. The body has been moved to Nyahururu level 5 hospital mortuary.

One of the bandits was arrested and is in custody at Ol-Moran police station pending collection by DCI Laikipia West.

The National Police Service commends the role to curb insecurity, and sustenance of peace by the multi-agency security teams and urges the public to continue sharing timely information for immediate response by security teams on the ground.
