Ministry of Labour and SOS Holds a Sensitization Program
The Ministry of labor, social security, and protection in conjunction with SOS children’s villages held a sensitization program to discuss issues of family strengthening with a focus on how to protect the family and ways to curb the various challenges facing our homes.
“Today we are here to give the stakeholders what the department does, the divisions in the department but specifically we were dealing with family promotion and strengthening. We want to strengthen Uasin Gishu families starting today,” said Judith Baraza, Uasin Gishu deputy County director.
With a family being the basic unit of life, there are various issues affecting the different families in the country, ranging from gender-based violence, matters of defilement, rape, and general violence affecting our communities and societies, the meeting aimed at sensitization and ways to curb the different challenges affecting our homes.
“We were having a meeting to discuss issues of strengthening families and we are particularly focused on how to protect the family. A particular concern to us are matters on gender-based violence, defilement, rape and matters on general violence in the family.” Noted Charles Laboso, deputy county commissioner Ainabkoi Sub County.
The emphasis is placed on concerted efforts on all various stakeholders in our society to make sure the rule of law is followed without any fear and favor.
“In particular we are saying, we want to protect the rule of law to make sure that we protect all members of the society particularly vulnerable members, women, children, persons with living disability, the elderly,” he said.
The first line of protection for these groups is the rule of law. We are asking our law enforcement agencies to make sure there are no compromises when fighting gender-based violence, rape cases, and even defilement cases.
The law is the law, and it should be followed and that forms the basis of our discussion here today.” added Charles Laboso.
A rallying call has been issued to all members of the society from the clergy to the political leadership to embrace this talk so as to ensure a harmonious society.
“We want to partner with other departments as a national government in making sure this conversation goes all the way down to the grassroots. We want to partner with the clergy, local leadership, national leadership and everybody else in addressing these matters.” Remarked Charles Laboso.
