Moi University doctor-lecturers Strike Still On-KMPDU Official
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) officials now want Moi University vice-chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgey to resign.
According to KMPDU National chairman Dr. Abidan Mwachi due to mismanagement that has led to the doctors- lecturers strike paralyzing learning in the institution.
“As KMPDU official we are disappointed with how prof Isaac Kosgey is running the institution, it’s sad that our lecturers who are our members have not been paid, this is uncalled for and he should just pack and go,” Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) chairman said.
According to the KMPDU officials, each of the Moi University doctor-lecturers is owed over Ksh1.5 million in unpaid salaries and allowances that cumulatively is about Ksh200 million.
“The Vice-chancellor has failed us and there is no reason for him to continue staying in office yet the lives of our students are in jeopardy, they should pack and go,” said the Northrift KMPDU secretary-general Dr Kamunzi Mulei
They, however, said that the strike will continue until the dues of doctors cum lecturers are paid.
“We are here today to reaffirm that the strike will go on for as long as possible until the university management listens to our call of paying our members. Why should every bad thing happen to this university, is this the epicenter of all misfortunes in this country,” Dr. Kamunzi Mulei.
“The strike is still on and we urge parents and students to bear with us since our members cannot teach without their dues being paid,” KMPDU National chairman Dr. Abidan Mwachi.
