MP Oscar Sudi Criticizes Deputy President Gachagua Over Stalled Tea Reforms
In a scathing statement today, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi condemned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the lack of progress in the transformative tea reforms that had initially promised to uplift the livelihoods of tea farmers. Sudi alleged that the reforms were derailed due to collusion between powerful cartels and individuals tasked with overseeing the process.
“The tea reforms were a lifeline for our farmers, but they have been cut short because of corruption and betrayal,” Sudi stated during a press conference. “It is disheartening to witness how those meant to serve our farmers have instead joined forces with cartels to undermine the very foundation of our tea industry.”
Sudi emphasized that the proposed reforms aimed to address long-standing issues in the sector, including fair pricing, improved working conditions, and enhanced productivity. However, he lamented that the aspirations of the farmers were sacrificed for personal gain by influential figures within the government.
“This is a classic case of leadership failing the people,” Sudi declared. “Deputy President Gachagua must take responsibility for the mess that has unfolded under his watch. Our farmers deserve better, and we will not remain silent while their hopes are dashed.”
The MP’s comments come amid growing frustration among tea farmers, who have seen little to no improvement despite the government’s initial promises. Sudi’s call for accountability highlights the urgency for transparent governance and genuine commitment to the welfare of farmers in the tea sector.
Sudi concluded by urging the government to act swiftly to reinstate the reforms and restore the trust of the farming community. “We will continue to advocate for our farmers and demand justice until the cartels are dismantled and the reforms are put back on track,” he asserted.
As the tea industry grapples with these challenges, the call for reform remains a pressing issue, and the scrutiny of leadership continues to intensify.
