MTRH Celebrates Annual HEI Graduation Ceremony 2024
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) came together to celebrate the success of the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Program 2024, at the Riley Mother & Baby Hospital grounds.
During the celebration, themed : ‘Wakati ni Sasa, Tulinde Kizazi’ 75 children were declared HIV-negative after being born to HIV-positive mothers. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the effectiveness of the PMTCT Program.
The Program plays a critical role in preventing the transmission of HIV from mothers to their children. Through a combination of antiretroviral therapy, regular monitoring, and support services, PMTCT Program has been able to significantly reduce the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
MTRH CEO, represented by Dr. Simiyu Tabu, expressed gratitude to the supportive health system and committed Hospital Leadership that have provided the necessary infrastructure and resources for the PMTCT Program to thrive.
He also recognized and applauded the mothers who have diligently adhered to their treatment regimens.
The CEO appreciated the dedicated health team involved in the PMTCT
Program; the doctors, nurses, multi-disciplinary Human Resources for Health and the mentor mothers who have provided peer support and guidance.
“Today, as we celebrate the graduation of these 75 children from the PMTCT Program, let us remember that this success is not an endpoint but a milestone on a continuing journey. We must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent new HIV infections and ensure the health and well-being of all mothers and children,” said Dr. Simiyu.
Also present during the ceremony was the Director, Reproductive Health, Dr. Wycliffe Kosgey, Dr. Beatrice Jakait, representing the Chief of Party, AMPATH Uzima and Staff.
