MTRTH Signs Collective Bargaining Agreement with KUDHEIHA
The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH ) 22 September signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Education Institutes, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) after a long negotiation period.
Speaking to the press, the MTRH CEO Dr.Willson Aruasa said that the two parties have verified that the financial and non-financial agreements meet the thresholds of the law and other agencies such as the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
“Ours today was just to wrap up by making sure that the non-financial and financial agreement process of CBA was in line with the law, particularly the SRC,” said Aruasa.
Dr.Aruasa lauded the management together with the entire Ministry of Health for using a social dialogue approach to arrive at a decision that will improve the services of the union.
He urged all institutions that have staff and unions to employ negotiations in finding a long-term solution.
Samson Kioko, KUDHEIHA secretary general promised that both unions will make full implementation of the CBA to achieve a smooth transition of services. It does this by minimizing workers’ conflict in the industry while also motivating them to put more effort and be productive in the chain of production.
“We are also happy to be assured by the management of the MTRH that whatever we have agreed on today that will benefit both sides will be implemented fully as it was signed without any other doubt and we echo that,” noted Kioko.
The MTRH according to Dr.Aruasa undertakes health training for healthcare providers and they usually get students from the entire continent of Africa and beyond therefore the CBA will help the union in providing multi-quality healthcare services.
The CBA gives details of how the staff will be recruited, dispute resolution, and retirement guidelines. The agreement will last for the next four years.
