Maina Wakaburu, a prominent businessman and philanthropist based in Nakuru, was summoned for questioning by detectives from the Rift Valley Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding his alleged involvement in recent anti-tax protests in the country. Accompanied by his lawyer, Collins Odungo, Wakaburu presented himself at the DCI offices in Nakuru on Tuesday, where he was questioned for approximately an hour.

According to reports, Nakuru East Criminal Investigation Director Samuel Ngeiywo called upon Wakaburu following intelligence suggesting that he had been mobilizing youths and others to engage in criminal activities, including vandalizing the homes and business premises of prominent politicians in Nakuru East.

In response to these allegations, Odungo clarified that his client vehemently denies meeting with protesters or financing any illegal activities. He emphasized that Wakaburu respects the local Member of Parliament and advocates for corrective actions rather than silencing dissent through security interventions.

Odungo further mentioned that statements have been recorded during the interrogation session, but as of now, no charges have been filed against Wakaburu. The legal team awaits further communication from investigating officers regarding the status of the case.

The summons and subsequent questioning have raised concerns among Wakaburu’s supporters, who allege political motives behind the investigation. They argue that such actions could stifle legitimate expressions of dissent and community engagement.
