Nakuru Governor Defends President Ruto’s Economic Policies Amid Public Backlash

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has come to the defense of President William Ruto’s administration, urging Kenyans to reconsider their criticism of the government’s economic strategies. In a recent post on social media, Kihika expressed confusion over the mixed reactions from the public regarding the president’s efforts to secure funding for major infrastructural projects.

“Ok good people, I am sitting here wondering what Kenyans really want? You don’t want the President to borrow any more money (I get it and prefer he doesn’t too), but when we have willing investors for Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), then you are all up in arms?” she tweeted. The governor emphasized the importance of involving the private sector in funding large-scale projects to alleviate reliance on the national treasury.

Kihika’s comments come in response to widespread concern among Kenyans regarding certain PPP deals, notably the controversial Adani-JKIA takeover and KETRACO-Adani project, which have faced criticism for their perceived lack of transparency. Many citizens argue that these deals could erode public confidence in the government.

Despite these concerns, Kihika urged the public to allow President Ruto time to implement his economic plans, reiterating that two years in office may not be sufficient to fulfill the promises made during the presidential campaign.

As the debate continues, Kenyans remain divided on the effectiveness and transparency of the administration’s economic policies. The government faces the challenge of addressing these concerns while working to stimulate growth and improve the country’s financial standing.
