NCCK CALLS FOR CAUTION AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS
The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has urged Kenyans to maintain peace, cohesion and tolerance following a meeting held by the clergymen.
NCCK North Rift Region chairperson Rev Daniel Barno, appealed to politicians against using of hate speech and inciting Kenyans.
“Sell your mission to Kenyans and do not incite and talk of issues that will bring disunity in the region.” Said Barno.
He also called on IEBC to educate voters so that the citizens can know their rights as they choose the right leaders to lead the country. The NCCK Chair further challenged the citizens to be cautious of politicians who influence their decision with money.
‘’We may have wrong leaders because of the use of money and therefore we are calling upon the citizens to be careful during the time they are voting to make sure they have the right person who live lead them for the next five years.”
Rev Barno also rallied on the government to cushion citizens and farmers in the agricultural basket regions during these tough economic times.
“We are having a fuel shortage which has stalled a lot of things in the region and with this being the planting season and we may actually lack food because of the shortage.
“Peace and tolerance should be paramount and that Kenyans should be responsible during this campaign period.Your brother will always be your brother before and after the general elections why should you attack your neighbor just because of politics.Let us embrace each other.” he noted.
