NLC Kenya and KeNHA Reach Consensus to Address Delays in Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project
The National Land Commission (NLC) of Kenya and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) have reached a crucial agreement aimed at resolving delays in the implementation of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project. This consensus was achieved during a consultative meeting held at the NLC offices on Monday.
The Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project is pivotal for enhancing regional connectivity and driving economic development. However, the initiative has encountered significant setbacks, primarily due to challenges related to the compensation of Project-Affected Persons (PAPs).
During the meeting, representatives from both organizations emphasized the urgent need to streamline processes and expedite actions to alleviate the project’s delays. A central topic of discussion was the importance of ensuring timely and fair compensation for PAPs, whose grievances have been a source of concern for the NLC.
NLC Kenya highlighted the complaints received from affected communities, stressing the necessity of a collaborative approach to effectively address these issues. The meeting marked a significant step toward fostering a constructive dialogue aimed at overcoming obstacles to project implementation.
As both NLC and KeNHA commit to expediting the compensation process and enhancing communication with affected communities, stakeholders remain hopeful that these efforts will facilitate the swift progression of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, ultimately benefiting the region’s economic landscape.
