North Rift Muslims Demonstrate Over Legalization Of LGBTQ
Muslims from the North-Rift region held a peaceful demonstration in Eldoret town protesting over against plans by the supreme court to legalize LGBTQ marriages.
Speaking to the press, the North-rift chairperson of Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Abubakar Bini condemned the practice, stating that it will bring disgrace to society and religion at large.
“Today, we have gone to the streets of Eldoret town to protest against legalization of LGBTQ by the supreme court. Kenya is a religious country which adheres to rules and biblical teachings. We will continue with demonstration until the ruling is reversed ” said Bini.
Sheik Bini also called upon members of parliament to discuss the issue in parliament and condemn it by all means.
“ I call upon the community to shun same sex relationships as they are against the African culture and morals and elders from the various communities to sensitize their people against such acts,”added North-rift chairperson of Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya.
The Muslim clergy also challenged President William Ruto to protect the nation from being influenced by Western countries.
“We are asking our President Ruto to come out and defend the country’s culture as Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has done . He should not trade country just because of donations from Western Countries” the CIPK North Rift chairman said.
Suleiman Abdalla, a member of the Islamic community emphasized on the need to ban LGBTQ since it is against African traditions and culture.
He noted the issue has not been taken seriously and called upon the National government to ban it completely just like the other African countries saying it is a behavior from western countries .
“We are asking our President Ruto to come out and defend the country’s culture as Yoweri Museveni of Uganda did,” said Suleiman Abdalla.
The Supreme Court of Kenya under a seven-judge bench recently ruled that the LGBTQ community have the right to association.
