Not Under Our Watch - Thang'wa and Mukunji Vow

Two outspoken Members of Parliament have swore that they won’t allow the Judiciary to sabotage mega projects meant for the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda BETA chiefly the Housing and Health agenda.

Karungo Thang’wa who is Kiambu Senator and also the Senate Housing committee chairperson and Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji have thrown cold water at the Judiciary for the uncalled for and corruptly obtained court orders.

Speaking during a press conference at the Ruiru housing project in Kiambu county, the legislators maintained that the court orders issues against the implementation of the housing project are in bad faith as they failed to take the public interest into consideration.

“I have written to the Senate outlining my intentions to amend both the High Court and the JSC Acts. The objective is to establish a Policies Court within the High Court, dedicated to handling litigations challenging government policies, akin to the existing Employment and Environmental Courts in the High Court.
This Court will be subject to a timeline, possibly 30 days, within which the cases should be concluded.
Additionally, it is essential to add or restructure the JSC membership to ensure accountability.” Karungo wa Thang’wa noted.

“In this site alone we have four hundred youths.If they stop this project that is ongoing here,where will these people go.we are not telling the judiciary what to do.We are telling them to apply public good and public interests when they are giving court orders”, added Thangwa .

“We are not going to allow the stoppage of affordable housing and universal health care,”he added.

Thangwa revealed that the Kenya kwanza senators are already in plans to bring a bill to amend the Judicial Service Commision (JSC) to introduce policy courts akin to the employments and labour courts which will specifically handle special matters.

On his part, Gitonga Mukunji called for restrain among the arms of the government in a bid to enhance seamless service delivery.
“I want to appeal to all arms of government to implement some sort of resilience and restrain when it comes to interfering with other arms of government work,”he said.

Their sentiments come hot on the heels of various leaders and organizations slamming president William Ruto over his remarks to disregard what he called court orders from “corrupt” judges.
